It offered up information about how to make money from publishing, copyrights, and a new organization that specializes in internet royalty collection for musicians.
The Austin Music Foundation hosted its 6th seminar in the Music Industry Bootcamp seminar series on Monday, September 30th at 6pm at the Hard Rock Cafe. The topic was Mailbox Money: Performing Rights Organizations and the New Media. Both independent artists new to this topic and veterans came to learn what they needed to know and made sure they were collecting all the money they could! It discussed how writer/publisher Performing Rights Organizations (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC) work for songwriters, and also Sound Exchange - a new organization that collects a whole new category of internet-related royalties for songwriters!
A panel of local artists and national speakers discussed: - collecting royalty payments for publishing and sound recording copyrights - making sure all of your rights are protected, even if you are an independent artist - learning how other local artists get the biggest bang for the buck out of their music - particular emphasis on a new category of royalty rights for webcasting and other digital transmissions
Attendees also had the opportunity to ask questions and interact individually with the panelists during the Round Table Workshop. As always, this seminar was FREE FOR MUSICIANS AND INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS!
