09.25.03 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE On Monday, September 29, 2003, the Austin Music Foundation (AMF) will hold its seventh Music Industry Boot Camp (MIBC) of the year, "The Rough Guide to Touring." The MIBC series is held at MOMO's Club, 618 W. 6th Street from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
This diverse group of panelists will discuss smart planning
strategies and tactics of touring for independent artists, ranging from
managing budgets and finances to on-the-road promotional strategies.
Musicians and bands will learn many aspects of planning their own tour
and will be able to ask questions particular to their needs. Attendees
will also receive a copy of AMF's "Rough Guide to Touring" as a
take-away reference.
The training continues after the panel discussion with the Round Table Workshop,where audience members can chat personally with each panelist and receive more tailored attention.
The panelists for each MIBC are experts in their industry, and each
brings their knowledge and experience to benefit the local Austin music
community. As always, Music Industry Bootcamp is FREE for attendees,
and is also a great place to network with others in the Austin music

Fuel the Music. ____________________________________________________________________ SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES: Urny Maxwell - Guitar player, Cruiserweight Cruiserweight is currently working on a new full-length record to be released in early 2004. Throughout the past 2 years they have toured extensively throughout the southeast and midwest and have garnered much attention
from the music industry at large. Cruiserweight was voted "best
punk/alternative" group in the 2003 Austin Music Awards and Stella
received a nod for "Best Female Vocalist" as well.
Brian Stovall - Agent, Austin Universal Entertainment Inc. As an
agent for AUE, Brian books Harris and Ryden, Mickey and the Motorcars,
Peter Dawson, and Anytown. Brian has been involved in the entertainment
industry for the last 10 years, including work with Capital Sports and
Entertainment, Direct Events, Roadstar Productions, Arc Entertainment,
and promotional work with artist Trish Murphy. Brian also has a wealth
of production experience, including Production and Operations Manager
for Universal Concerts in Austin, Dallas, and Denver, Colorado as well
as House of Blues Coors Ampitheatre in San Diego. Jared Cannon - Co-Founder, Sub Par Publicity With over 12 years' experience in the indie music industry, Cannon has worked both sides of the fence - both as a touring musician and music publicist. After earning his stripes as a member of several national touring
punk and hardcore acts, Cannon went on to obtain a degree in Music
Business at Berklee College of Music. While attending classes, Cannon
undertook press duties for Boston-based indie giant Hydra Head Records,
and went on to work as an in-house publicist for Sixgun Lover Records
(Austin), Chrome Saint Magnus Records (Switzerland), and Tortuga
Recordings/Bridge Nine Records (Boston). Now back in Austin, Texas,
Cannon has recently launched Sub Par Publicity with prominent local
music attorney Buck McKinney. With an extensive list of satisfied
clientele from Austin to Boston, Sub Par offers quality service options
for independent artists in the Austin area and beyond.
Wayne Nagel - Booking Director, Luther Wolf Agency Nagel's associations and accomplishments read like a survey of major landmarks
in Austin music history over the previous quarter century. He was
integrally involved in launching the careers of such talents as Charlie
Sexton, Will Sexton and Pariah, established the renowned Continental
Club as a live music venue, and brought a new level of professional
support to the Austin scene by opening the Austin Rehearsal Complex.
Most recently, Nagel has worked as an agent for the Davis McLarty
Agency, booking top Texas acts like The Derailers, The Gourds, Kelly
Willis and Billy Joe Shaver. He also teaches the Live Music: Concert
