Wednesday, August 8 Instructor: Sarah Wimer, Principal, Spinning World Promotions Need to get your name in the news? Don�t know where to start or what to expect? Learn how to target publications and gain media interest. This session, full of media hints, will cover traditional and innovative ways to get your act covered by the press. About the instructor: Sarah Wimer began Spinning World Promotions when Del Castillo asked her to be their first publicist. After that group won seven Austin Music Awards--including Band and Album of the Year, her opportunities expanded. Wimer has worked with a number of local bands advising them on how to integrate the quest for media into their overall career development. Her work has evolved to include other music-related projects, including festival talent buying and program development. Her clients have included Los Lonely Boys, the West Australia Music Office, and the UT Center for Mexican American Studies. As a freelance arts writer, her articles have appeared in over 20 regional and national magazines, giving her perspective from both those giving and seeking media coverage.
Wednesday, July 25 Instructor: Kathleen Lucente, Professor, Integrated Marketing/PR in the Entertainment Industry, UT Austin Are you telling a good story? Do you connect with your fans in a meaningful way? The perception of the general public and media are important. Assess yourself, your message, and your music to discover how to present recognizable, memorable, and consistent information. This seminar covers how to develop a cohesive outward presentation, especially for media attention. About the instructor: Kathleen developed and teaches Marketing and Communication to senior undergraduate and graduate students at UT. The course includes all aspects of integrated communication including: branding, advertising, press relations, message development, positioning, spokesperson training, crisis communications, investor relations, government relations, internal communications, philanthropy and sponsorship strategies, etc. In her first semester as a professor at UT, the Mortar Board Society of Honor Students selected Kathleen to receive �The Preferred Professor Award.� Kathleen has also held executive-level corporate communications and marketing positions at JPMorgan Chase, Peppercom, IBM, and Ketchum PR, among others. She not only understands communications as a business discipline, but has real-world experience adapting it to dynamic business environments.
