
UPCOMING EVENTS She Rocks calendar release party - Elysium - Thur, Nov 8 | AUSTIN MUSIC FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES FIRST MUSIC INDUSTRY BOOTCAMP OF 2005 Local Musicians Offered Opportunity to Learn About Music Industry, Specifics of Successfully Releasing a CD During this interactive strategy session, a select group of industry experts will take aspiring artists through the entire CD release process in just two hours. Prior to the session, one attending musician will be randomly selected to join the panelists on stage to devise a production, manufacturing, marketing, distribution, tour and launch party plan for their CD. The MIBC series presents excellent opportunities for local musicians to meet and network with peers in the Austin music community. Panelists for each MIBC are experts in their respective fields, donating their knowledge and expertise to strengthen the Austin music community. CONTACT: SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES In 2001, Ray started Fifth Column, an Austin-based artist development company, whose projects have included: Manatee, Kacy Crowley, the Ear Candy compilation, Trish Murphy, Kevin McKinney, Tucker Livingston and The Action Is (among others). Current projects include Friends of Lizzy and the new Pushmonkey record. Before starting Fifth Column, Ray worked as the Alternative Artist Development representative for the Midwest with Polygram Group Distribution, working with labels like A & M, Mercury, Island, Hollywood, and Mammoth. He has also served as the independent label buyer and advertising coordinator for the Handleman Company, and off-and-on managed a variety of independent record stores. And once, a long time ago, he was the head cook at Weiner King. Vicki Lucero Vickie Lucero moved to Central Texas in 1993 to study public relations at Texas State University and ended up majoring in internships doing PR for as many record labels as possible. In 1996 she started Propaganda Media Group, a boutique PR firm with her friend Julie Carr. They have handled artist development and tour PR for several artists including Dash Rip Rock, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Ian Moore, Terri Hendrix, Slaid Cleaves, Adam Carroll, Ruthie Foster, Chris Whitley, Beaver Nelson, Colin Gilmore, Ray Wylie Hubbard and many others. In 2002 Propaganda represented the Ribbon of Highway~ Endless Skyway tour celebrating the spirit of Woody Guthrie and added the Old Settler's Music Festival, one of Austin's favorite music festivals as a client. In 2003 Propaganda began a successful relationship with Threadgill's Restaurants in Austin and handle PR and marketing for the Threadgill's Beergraden Music Series. In 2004 long time partner Julie Carr left to pursue a career in Chinese Medicine and Vickie has continued doing PR for Texas' finest acts including South Austin Jug Band and Grammy nominated Eliza Gilkyson while adding singer songwriter extraordinaire Todd Snider to their roster for PR and management. Also, Propaganda is producing the Aramadillo Radio Hour which is taped at Threadgill's monthly featuring a fine array of Americana and AAA artists including James McMurty, Bruce Robison, Bob Schneider, Ruthie Foster and Gurf Morlix and hosted by Eddie Wilson and Cleve Hattersly, originals to the Aramadillo scene. Vickie has enjoyed a long working relationship with manager Mike Crowley and in August 2004 the two teamed up to co-manage up-and-coming musician Hayes Carll. His sophomore release, "Little Rock" will be released on Highway 87 Music in March of 2005. |
